Kpop & Dramas & Study, Oh My!

I had quite a few drinks last night, and I had trouble finding the right kdrama to fit my mood after finishing Are You Human Too?. Here's what I tried.

1. Melting Me Softly

The guy is decent looking, and the premise has a scifi twinge. I love scifi. I started it and was into it until the female lead popped up. I realized pretty fast that it was Won Jin Ah from Just Between Lovers.

I loved that drama, but I didn't think she was particularly good in it. More on the annoying side. So I bailed for now.

2. D-Day

Ha Seok-Jin is one of the stars, and I thought did an okay job in 1% of Something (though it was my least favorite drama to date). I'm super into the premise though, since I like action/disaster movies. Hell, I just love movies of all types, to be honest. I stopped it because the timing of the subtitles was too fast while I was drinking. I've found that poorly timed subtitles detract from my enjoyment anyway, but if I'm drinking, it obliterates my enjoyment.

3. Watcher

Okay, so I'm a sucker for Seo Kang-Joon. He's a good actor and also stunning to look at. I actually stumbled across his picture first and didn't know if he was a kpop idol or actor (but I assumed model). I had an instant, "Who's that?" moment. So, I added all of his dramas to my watch list on Viki.

I don't watch movies and shows for shallow reasons, but I've been having fun watching romance-heavy stuff. For those, a super attractive guy is a plus. The fact that he can actually act was a pleasant surprise.

I don't know if you can have a bias for acting, like you do for music. But if it's a thing, Seo Kang-Joon is my bias for sure. And yes, I checked out a little bit of 5urprise, which I'd never heard (or heard of, in fact). And I listened to a solo song as well.

It's okay but didn't grab me. I'd need to delve in some more to find something I'd put in my playlist. I don't listen to music for shallow reasons either. If the music itself isn't special, well-done, and something I want to hear, I'm not going to listen to it.

Anyway though, I've got to say that I was immediately drawn into the plot of Watcher, but I decided to give it some space. I enjoyed the Nam Shin/Nam Shin 3 character(s) and don't want them to blend with any others when I think back to it. I will 100% be watching this at some point!

4. The Smile Has Left Your Eyes

I watched the most of this one... about 30 minutes. I think I'll try to continue it today, though it didn't really hook me. In fact, I kept nodding off, and it wasn't just from the drinks. I had a few more drinks after that! But it prompted me to turn it off and watch some music instead.

And Some Music

I checked out some Seo Kang-Joon songs and an interview. I watched some Junho videos/dancing. I'm obsessed with dancing, which to this point I didn't mention yet. The only reason I got into kpop at all was the dancing. I'd check out dance videos, and if I heard a banger, I'd add it to my playlist.

I watched some Park Jimin dance videos too. I love the expressiveness of his dancing. He can pop lock well, but the combination of that pop-n-lock sharpness and the grace of modern dance makes him something special. He was my first real bias for kpop, I'd say. His voice is pretty versatile and good, but it's all about the dancing.

Speaking of Dancing...

I decided to watch a compilation of the most viewed kpop boy bands of the past 10 years (top 10 per year). And I heard one of those bangers mentioned above. "Boss" by NCT U. Holy fuckstix... that beat is hard! So I paused and looked up the dance practice video, which is my go-to.

I pressed play and could NOT take my eyes off of the pink-haired, Gucci dude. I scrolled through the comments and see everyone talking about Lee Taeyong. I assume that he must be Gucci dude. If not, I don't know what people are talking about... since he's the one who killed it.

Altogether, I think I watched the dance practice video like 5 times last night. Three times back-to-back, once after I grabbed a snack... and once after finishing the rest of the top 10 video. They all dance well together, but I'm an instant fan of... I'm assuming Lee Taeyong. I can't see his face in the practice, but he must be the one.

Today

  • Bought Korean keyboard stickers for my laptop
  • Learned 14 new words (out of 40-ish for the next lesson)
  • Did the sentence practice for the last lesson
  • Wrote all the vocab for the last chapter in my language journal
  • Filled in one conjugation table (may do some others later)
Tomorrow
More vocabulary for the next lesson... probably a piece of the next lesson as well, if not just more conjugation practice. And hopefully I'll get a decent start on a drama tonight and catch some of that tomorrow as well.
파이팅!
